At the beginning of Bionicle, with the Toa on Mata Nui, battling the Rahi, was the fact that Mata Nui was a giant robot travelling between worlds and then crashed, triggering the camouflauge system, etc, etc, etc, all known at that point in time? Or was that added later-ish? I hope you underdstood what I was talking about...

Yes, the idea that Mata Nui was a robot was in the original story bible. Remember, the original plan was that Mata Nui would restart at the end of 2001. Nobody knew the line would last more than a year.
