1) I personally did not, no.
2) I don't plan my stories out ahead. I write them as they come to me. Half the fun is getting characters into traps and then having to figure out how to get them out.

Actually, BIONICLE's best year was 2002 ... set sales had been gradually dropping since then. I think part of the reason for ending it when they did was to do it while it was still semi-successful rather than wait for it to die. That way, you still have the option to bring it back someday if you want to.
